ISLAMABAD: The ruling party Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) has again reached Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) to join the coalition government, sources said on Sunday.

After getting governors’ slots in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the PPP is considering becoming a part of the federal and Punjab cabinets.

According to the sources, after the offer of joining the federal government by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, PPP leadership has started the consultation process and there is a strong possibility of getting important federal ministries to join the government of the PPP.

The PPP sources said that the PML-N has requested the party to join the government before the next budget. “The challenges faced by the country could not be tackled by a single political party,” PML-N said.

“We want to guide the country out of the crises by joining hands with the PPP,” the ruling party said in its message.

Sources said that the PPP leadership has been under pressure to join the government. The party’s parliamentarians from Sindh backed to join the government. However, a senior party leader from Sindh has vehemently opposed the offer and communicated the opinion to the party’s leadership.

The PPP also desired to grab the chairmanship of key standing committees of the National Assembly and those in Punjab. The PPP is discussing the issue with the PML-N.

As such, the PPP leadership would put the issue before the Central Executive Committee (CEC) to build consensus. Party sources added that the final decision regarding joining the government will be taken after consulting the party’s CEC meeting.

Moreover, getting a formal nod from the PPP Central Executive Committee is essential before announcing the decision and timings of joining the federal cabinet and the one in Punjab.
