LAHORE: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has submitted a resolution against ‘digital terrorism’ to the Punjab Assembly.
PML-N member Raheela Khadim Hussain introduced the resolution, which argues that ‘digital terrorism‘ is eroding the country’s political and social foundations. It points out that these acts often target institutions and harass officers and their families.
The resolution also notes that ‘digital terrorism’ is broadcast internationally, damaging the country’s reputation. It accuses social media vloggers of engaging in harmful activities at the behest of disruptive political parties.
According to the resolution, political leaders, workers, and institutions are all vulnerable to digital terrorism.
The resolution also mentions a fake video attributed to Uzma Bukhari that was widely circulated, despite lacking any basis in reality.
It calls for stringent measures to halt digital terrorists and impose severe penalties on them.
On Tuesday, it was revealed that the federal government has established special courts in Islamabad under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) of 2016. These courts are designated to try “digital terrorists” and individuals accused of spreading “anti-state propaganda” through digital content.
This decision came after the law ministry issued a notification about the new courts, following consultations with the Chief Justice of the Islamabad High Court (IHC).
