ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan on Tuesday said that it is time to find a way forward regarding the release of the party’s founding chairman.
Speaking to the media outside Adiala Jail, Barrister Gohar said that the PTI leadership is not disappointed and is hopeful that Imran Khan will be released this week.
He remarked that the PTI founder was unjustly imprisoned as the cases against him were purely political in nature. Barrister Gohar said that the party believes that the situation has been going on for a long time and that “some solution should be found now”. He added that he is praying for Khan’s release in the coming days.
Earlier, Barrister Gohar met Imran Khan at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi along with lawyers Salman Akram Raja and Ali Zafar. After the meeting, the three leaders left in separate vehicles.
The authorities also allowed Imran Khan’s two sisters, Uzma Khan and Noreen Khan, to meet him and both went inside the jail. However, his other sister, Aleema Khan, and senior lawyer Qasim Zaman Khan were reportedly denied access.
PTI chairman Gohar Ali Khan was stopped at the Dehgal checkpoint before the meeting. PTI leaders Ali Muhammad Khan and Niazullah Niazi were also stopped at the same location. Meanwhile, Aleema, Uzma and Noreen Khan were kept at the Gorakhpur checkpoint before being allowed partial access.
The restrictions on party leaders and family members have drawn criticism from the PTI, which has been pressing for the “unjust imprisonment” of its founding leader.
