ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has decided to formally request the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to refrain from providing any financial assistance to Pakistan until a thorough investigation into alleged election rigging is conducted.

Barrister Ali Zafar has announced that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) would be writing a letter to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on behalf of Imran Khan, urging the cessation of support for Pakistan in light of alleged “rigged elections.”

Speaking to the media in Rawalpindi alongside PTI leaders, he said that according to the IMF and European Union (EU) charters, loans will be given to the country only when there is good governance. International organizations do not work in countries where there is no democracy.

Ali Zafar said that the whole world has seen that people’s votes were stolen in the darkness of night. The constituencies where rigging occurred need to be audited, and the auditing process should also include a judicial review. If there is no audit, taking a loan from the IMF would be detrimental to the country.

While a journalist Khawar Ghumman took to Twitter that “PTI has decided to write to IMF against giving any loan to Pakistan until a free and fair investigation into alleged election rigging is done.”
