ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan has said that both the establishment and the PTI are essential for the country and its people.
This was revealed by Advocate Faisal Chaudhry while talking to the media after meeting Imran Khan at Adiala Jail. He said that a list of 6 lawyers was submitted but only Naeem Haider Panjotha and Usman Gul were allowed to meet Imran Khan.
“I went out and asked Panjotha to be called in,” he added. He confirmed that Imran Khan was fine but the former Prime Minister was told that his sisters were not allowed to meet him.
Faisal Chaudhry said that party leaders and lawyers were also being prevented from meeting Imran Khan. “Only two names in the list were allowed to enter, while the rest were stopped,” he added.
In the meeting, Imran Khan expressed his concerns over the situation arising after the 26th Constitutional Amendment. He said that the legal committee and the party leadership will write a letter to the Chief Justice regarding these issues, he added that cases are not being decided in the court and his wife Bushra Bibi is being mistreated.
Faisal Chaudhry said that Usman Gul and Faisal Malik discussed legal matters with Imran Khan, political developments were also shared with him.
He questioned why Imran Khan’s family was being denied the constitutional right to meet him, he said that we have met nine lawyers at a time before.
Imran Khan reiterated that PTI is a federal party that has the capacity to unite Pakistan, both PTI and the establishment are needed for national unity.
He also discussed the refusal of meetings with political colleagues and mentioned a phone call he had with his children three weeks ago. Usman Gul told him that the contempt petition would be heard on April 28.
Regarding the Mines and Minerals Bill, Imran Khan said it had become controversial and demanded that the KP Chief Minister and senior leadership brief him. He stressed that public trust was essential to avoid future complications.
Talking about Afghanistan, Imran Khan said he had spent three years on the issue and had earlier advised that terrorism could be dealt with only by talking to Afghanistan and including them in the process.
He criticised the current government for wasting time which resulted in the loss of precious lives, including soldiers, and said such important factors are ignored. “So far, there is no foreign direct investment,” he noted.
Imran Khan said that development in Pakistan is not possible without foreign exchange, investment will come only when the rule of law is ensured. He expressed regret that the country has been turned into a banana republic to crush the PTI and every institution, be it the judiciary, the FIA, or the police, has been destroyed.
