KARACHI: Another holiday for Karachi residents on June 19, Thursday, in the wake of the annual urs of Sufi saint Hazrat Abdullah Shah Ghazi, Mayor Murtaza Wahab announced Monday.
Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab has declared a public holiday in Karachi on Thursday, on the occasion of the Urs of Hazrat Abdullah Shah Ghazi. A public notification from the Senior Director of Human Resources Management (HRM) says all offices of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) will be closed on this day.
A notification issued in this regard read “The Competent Authority, Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, is pleased to declare a local holiday on 22″ Zill-Hajj, 1446 A.H., corresponding to Thursday, 19th June 2025, on the Annual Urs of Hazrat Abdullah Shah Ghazi (R.A.), in pursuance of Council Resolution No. 594, dated 27-01-2005, adopted by the City Council, Karachi.” read “All offices under the jurisdiction of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) shall be closed on the above occasion, except offices providing essential services.”
Abdullah Shah Ghazi was a 8th-century Sufi saint, and he is said to have originated from Saudi Arabia. He rests in Karachi, Pakistan, where his shrine in Clifton is an important religious and cultural centre.
He is venerated for his piousness and selflessness, and his shrine draws thousands of pilgrims annually, particularly during his yearly Urs.
