LAHORE: Promising to maintain decorum in the House, Punjab Assembly Speaker Malik Ahmad Khan on Saturday constituted an “Ethics Committee” to ensure discipline in the assembly.
At a press conference in Lahore, the Speaker Punjab Assembly said that he would not tolerate indiscipline in the House, adding that the ability to digest the actions of the opposition had reached its limit.
He said, the “Ethics Committee” would also determine the words used by different SIC members of the provincial assembly in Yesterday’s session so that an appropriate response could be given.
During the Punjab Assembly session on Friday, the opposition lawmakers resorted to a ruckus during Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s closing speech after the passage of the provincial budget and chanted anti-PML-N and unethical slogans.
During the presser today, Speaker Malik Ahmad Khan said that, previously, the protest was limited to noise, but things had worsened due to the use of abusive language and insulting the family members of rivals.
“It is neither a public gathering venue nor a container,” he remarked, adding that, “Everybody has the right to protest. But at the same time, it is binding on each assembly member to show respect for the House.”
Furthermore, Speaker PA promised to protect the honor of the Punjab Assembly as the custodian of the house. “It appears that political differences between the MPAs have now turned into animosities.”
Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan suspended membership of 11 MPAs for the ongoing session, saying that he has zero tolerance for such people who are bringing bad names to each other. “Whoever will spoil the atmosphere of the House, I will take action against him or her.”
