OKARA: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Monday said that the government will distribute Rs100 billion among the flood victims, two months after the devastating deluge displaced more than 4.2 million people of the province.
She announced the package while addressing a ceremony to distribute flood cards among the victims under the government’s flood rehabilitation program in Depalpur tehsil of Okara.
Talking on the occasion, the CM said that Nawaz Sharif’s daughter has come today to fulfill her promise, and the government will provide Rs 100 billion to help the flood victims.
The flood victims are getting their due, she said, stressing that they should get even more.
The Punjab Chief Minister said that the worst flood in history has hit Punjab, and I won’t sit comfortably until the last affected person is returned home.
Nawaz said that 70 per cent of the flood victims have been surveyed. However, before the survey is completed, compensation for the losses has started.
“The affected family or person whose name is not included in the list can register their complaints. For this, we have set up about 72 site camps across the province,” she told the victim.
Addressing the ceremony, Maryam further said that all the victims will also get compensation money, checks, and ATM cards. “Today, you will get 50 thousand rupees from here; the rest can be withdrawn from the ATM. So far, 71 thousand bank accounts have been opened for flood-affected families,” she said.
In addition to that, she said that all avenues of corruption have been closed in the distribution of relief to the victims, and they will transparently get the entire money.
“In my presence, no one can look at the people of Punjab with a dirty eye. There will be no discrimination between any individual or city in Punjab,” she maintained.
