LAHORE: The provincial government of Punjab has officially launched the “Plastic-Free Punjab Pledge” campaign as part of a major environmental initiative.

Under this campaign, a complete ban has been imposed on plastic bags with a thickness of less than 75 microns or less than 12×16 inches.

Led by the Punjab Environment Protection Department, the campaign aims to eliminate the use of single-use plastics and promote clean air and a healthy environment.

Punjab Secretary for Environment Salwat Saeed, along with Director General Imran Hamid Sheikh and other officials, visited various commercial areas to promote the campaign and seek cooperation from businesses. He stressed on strict implementation of the ban and urged shopkeepers and shopkeepers to switch to eco-friendly alternatives.

Secretary Saeed said that this initiative marks a significant step towards sustainable living and is a revolutionary step for public health and environmental protection. He stressed that single-use plastics are a major environmental hazard and pose serious risks to human health. “From now on, plastic bags with a thickness of less than 75 microns will neither be manufactured nor used,” he added.

Businesses are being encouraged to adopt green alternatives and stay away from limited plastic products.
