Punjab govt changes school timings amid scorching heat

LAHORE: The government of Punjab announced revised school timings to prevent children and staff from severe weather conditions and scorching heat as temperature rise to 45 degrees Celsius.

Earlier, the provincial government announced that summer vacations will start from June 1, 2024.

According to the notification issued by the School Education Department, “in the wake of severe weather, it is hereby notified that the revised school timings shall be observed in all public and private Schools in Punjab with effect from May 18 to May 31, 2024.”

As per notification, the classes in Punjab schools will start at 7:00 am to 11:30 am while the classes will conclude at 10:30 am on Fridays.

Furthermore, the Punjab government notified that heads of schools shall also take precautionary measures. “All fans should be in working condition in schools,” the notification added. “Availability of water coolers shall be ensured. No student in any school throughout the province shall be made to sit in the open space/lawn of the school during summertime.”
