LAHORE: As Eid al-Adha draws near, Punjab police have heightened security measures and issued a high alert due to large crowds in cattle markets across the province, according to media reports.
1000 police personnel will be on duty during the season in 11 points of Lahore cattle markets as per the details.
The spokesperson of the police department reported that 200 personnel were deployed at 26 markets in Sheikhupura, 600 at 41 markets in Gujranwala, over 250 at 15 markets in Rawalpindi, 200 at 24 markets in Sargodha, 600 at 19 markets in Faisalabad, 400 at 26 markets in Multan, 200 at 11 markets in Sahiwal, and 300 at 35 markets in Bahawalpur.
According to Punjab’s Inspector General (IG), no cattle market shall be established without the district government’s prior consent. Unauthorized sale locations and unlawful marketplaces will face severe legal penalties.
In order to avert any undesirable situations, the IG added that 284 patrolling teams, including Dolphin Squad and Police Response Units, will provide 24-hour surveillance surrounding cattle markets.
The public has been advised by Punjab Police to only buy animals from marketplaces that have been legally approved and to notify the local police station or hotline right away if they see any unusual activity.
