LAHORE: A clash broke out between security guards and students of Punjab University in Lahore on Tuesday. As per reports, the police lodged an FIR on the security guard’s complaint against the member of the Punjab University Students Federation (PUSF).
Members of the student body after spotting the security guards engaged in violent confrontations. Videos went viral on social media showing students throwing stones and bottles at the guards.
The clashes resulted in damage to several vehicles parked in the vicinity and windows of nearby departments shattered.
Progressive Students’ Collective (PSC) — a student organization in Pakistan — said that the varsity administration inflicted brutality against the participants of the student rights march conducted by PUSF.
Taking on X, the student organization strongly condemned the violence by the university administration and expressed solidarity with the students. Moreover, the PSC demanded action against the Chief Security Officer Colonel Obaid, and all other administration officials who ordered this “heinous act” against the students.
Pashtoon Education Development Movement (PEDM) said that several student organizations gathered together to record their protest on the recent fee hike and non-availability of the hostel. “The PU administration attacked the students to hide their incompetence,” PEDM said in a statement on social media.
