LAHORE: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a weather alert for Punjab, warning of dust storms, strong winds and rain in most districts between April 30 and May 4.
According to a PDMA spokesperson, thundershowers are likely in Rawalpindi, Murree, Galyat, Attock, Chakwal, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Jhelum and Gujranwala. Similar weather conditions, including strong winds and rain, are also likely in Lahore, Kasur, Sialkot, Narowal, Okara, Faisalabad, Toba Tek Singh, Jhang, Khushab, Sargodha and Mianwali.
Wind, rain and thundershowers are likely in southern Punjab including Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawalpur and Bahawalnagar from May 2 to 4.
PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia said that on the instructions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, an alert has been issued to all district administrations. The concerned departments including School Education, Health, Irrigation, Communication and Works, Local Government and Livestock have also been put on high alert.
In addition, the Information Department, WASA, Punjab Police and Civil Defense have been directed to remain vigilant. Citizens have been advised to stay indoors during thunderstorms, avoid open spaces and take shelter to protect themselves from lightning.
The PDMA urged the public to call the emergency helpline 1129 in case of any weather-related emergency.
