Railways school and hospital to go private amid poor performance: Abbasi

RAWALPINDI: Federal Minister for Railways, Muhammad Hanif Abbasi, has announced that all hospitals and 14 schools run by the Pakistan railways will be outsourced.

He said the decision was made because these institutions are in very bad condition and are not serving people properly.

Speaking at a reception in Rawalpindi’s UC-14, Abbasi said many railway hospitals are failing to treat patients. “Doctors are asking people to buy vaccines worth Rs. 50,000 from outside instead of treating them,” he added.

Due to the poor performance, the government decided to hand over the management of these hospitals and schools to private organisations after a full review.

The event was attended by Federal Parliamentary Secretary for Defence Production Usama Ashfaq Sarwar, members of the Punjab Assembly, and other local leaders.

Abbasi also gave a strong message to the railway staff. He said strict action will be taken against lazy or careless employees.

“We’ve approved overtime and met the demands of 58,000 workers. Now they have to come on time using the new digital biometric system and work responsibly,” he warned.
