Rangers, police officers deployed in Islamabad ahead of PTI protest

ISLAMABAD: To maintain law and order before the expected Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaaf (PTI) demonstration scheduled for November 24, the center has stationed Frontier Constabulary (FC) and Rangers in Islamabad.

This deployment made upon request of district administration was approved by the Ministry of Interior and is effective starting November 7 by Sections 4 and 5 of the Anti-Terrorism Act 1997.

The Chief Commissioner Islamabad had on November 4th, written to the Ministry of Interior seeking the deployment of the FC and Rangers, in a bid to support the local police in controlling any potential lawlessness.

Different preparations are already underway where containers are being fixed along some primary road routes in Islamabad serving strategic access roads.

These strategic access roads include Islamabad Highway at Zero Point Interchange, and Srinagar Highway where loads of containers have already been set on either side.

The Islamabad police have further heightened their state of readiness in anticipation of the PTI protest with a large contingent already stationed in D-Chowk, this includes bloody operations SSP Arsalan Shahzaib who is responsible for the troops as well as all the SHOs.

Apart from this, the police have other plans of taking a foot march from Express Chowk to China Chowk involving 1400 officers and other police ic personnel of Islamabad police. Bringing an estimate of 4,000 Rangers and 5,000 personnel of the FC who will be geared in anti-riot wear, the Authorities will umbrella dot the entire Islamabad in order to ensure peace during the demonstrations.
