RAWALPINDI: Rawalpindi Police to seek former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s physical remand in a vandalism case registered at New Town Police Station related to a September 27 protest.

Hours after the Islamabad High Court (IHC) granted bail to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf founder in the new Toshakhana case, Rawalpindi police arrested him in a new case on terrorism and other charges.

PTI founder will be presented today at an anti-terrorism court (ATC) set up in Rawalpindi’s Adiala jail, where he has been incarcerated.

Late Wednesday, the police spokesperson said that a team, led by SSP Investigation, formally arrested the former premier at the Adiala Jail and has been tasked with probing the matter.

According to the police, an FIR was filed at Rawalpindi’s New Town police station against Imran Khan in connection with the PTI’s Liaquat Bagh protest on September 27.

Police, in the FIR, alleged that Khan while imprisoned in Adiala Jail had called for a protest at Liaquat Bagh. KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur and his party supporters following Khan’s call participated in the gathering despite Section 144, leading to violent demonstrations.

The case included allegations of inciting arson and causing property damage and was lodged under Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA) and other relevant sections of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur and PTI leaders, including Seemabia Tahir, Amir Mughar, and Aliya Hamza, have been booked as co-accused along with the PTI.
