SAHIWAL: The Sahiwal District Council has declared 132 private housing societies illegal under various provisions of the Punjab Private Housing Scheme Rules 2022 and the Punjab Land Use (Classification, Reclassification and Redevelopment) Rules 2020, here on Tuesday.

According to Planning Office sources, these illegal housing societies are established in Sahiwal and Chichawatani tehsils.

These societies are spread in villages around urban areas such as Harappa, Chichawatani, Kameer, Yousafwala, Noor Shah, Madhali Road, Arifwala Road, and Pakpattan Road.

Last week, owners of three private housing colonies allegedly assaulted building inspectors Sheikh Umar and Shahroz Gujar after the inspectors demolished sales offices in illegal locations. The owners accused the inspectors of accepting bribes and failing to take action against illegal constructions, while the inspectors claimed that the owners failed to obtain the required NOCs and did not pay conversion fees worth billions of rupees.

Teams of District Council and Municipal Corporation under the leadership of Planning Officer Javed Gondal and Municipal Planning Officer of Sahiwal demolished the buildings and sales offices of Haram City, Model City and Fasal Archer on Old Harappa Road. These illegal housing schemes are spread over 80 villages in Sahiwal district.
