Security tightened in Islamabad, Rawalpindi amid threat alert

ISLAMABAD: Security measures have been tightened in the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi following a security threat, sources said.

As per details, security has been beefed up in the federal capital with the closure of the Red Zone from Nadra, Express, Bari Imam, and Kohsar gates while Margalla gate is open for entry only.

Law enforcement agencies (LEAs) have started a search operation in the twin cities as part of ongoing security measures. The alert also led to increased security in several areas, including key entry points to the capital.

Furthermore, the security around Islamabad’s Hostel City has also heightened and the LEAs have initiated a search operation due to possible threats.

Residents are urged to avoid non-essential travel in the affected areas and remain indoors if possible.

Authorities have vowed to take all necessary steps to ensure the safety and security of the public in these challenging times.

Earlier, the US Department of State has issued a Level 3 Travel Advisory, urging its citizens to reconsider travel to Pakistan due to the risks of “terrorism and the potential for armed conflict.”

The advisory warns that “terrorists may attack with little or no warning, targeting transportation hubs, markets, shopping malls, military installations, airports, universities, tourist attractions, schools, hospitals, places of worship, and government facilities.”
