Supreme Court fixes Arshad Sharif suo moto case on July 29

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court has fixed the hearing of the suo moto case regarding the investigation into the killing of journalist Arshad Sharif in Kenya.

A three-member bench led by Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, comprising Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan and Justice Shahid Bilal Hassan will hear the case on July 29.

According to the details, the apex court has issued notices to the attorney general, FIA director general, Interior Secretary, and IG Islamabad, among others.

On July 8, the Kajiado High Court in Kenya ruled that police used lethal force against Pakistani journalists in 2022 and declared the shooting arbitrary, unlawful,  and unconstitutional.

The court ordered the Kenyan government to pay 10 million Kenyan shillings (Rs21.7 million) to the family of slain Pakistani journalist Arshad Sharif as compensation for the loss of life.

The Kenyan court also directed criminal proceedings against the police officers and personnel involved in the shooting.
