SHANGLA: Two police personnel were martyred and three others injured in a terrorist attack on a police check-post in District Shangla of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the interior ministry confirmed on Tuesday.
Police said that the militants opened indiscriminate firing and hurled hand grenades at the Gananagar police checkpoint in the Chakesar area of Shangla.
As per the Interior Ministry press release, the slain cops have been identified as assistant sub-inspector Hassan Khan and head constable Nisar Khan. The injured include Muhammad Hussain, constable Arshad Khan, and constable Rifat.
Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi condemned the attack by Fitna-ul-Khawarij terrorists and paid tribute to the two martyred police personnel.
“He expressed grief and sorrow over the martyrdom of ASI Hassan Khan and Head Constable Nisar Khan and expressed his heartfelt condolences to their families,” the ministry’s statement read.
“He also prayed for the speedy recovery of the 3 injured police personnel.”
The Interior Minister, as quoted, said that the deceased officials of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police attained the “high rank of martyrdom”, adding that the martyrs are our pride and we stand with their families.
“The sacrifices of the KP Police in the war against terrorism cannot be forgotten. Nation salutes the brave sons of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police,” he was quoted as saying.
