LAHORE: The United States Consulate General in Lahore has issued a security advisory for its consulate personnel and citizens amid the prevailing situation in the country.

“Due to reports of drone explosions, downed drones, and possible airspace incursions in and near Lahore, the U.S. Consulate General in Lahore has directed all consulate personnel to shelter-in-place,” according to the advisory.

“The Consulate has also received initial reports that authorities may be evacuating some areas adjacent to Lahore’s main airport. U.S. citizens who find themselves in an area of active conflict should leave if they can do so safely. If it is not safe to leave, they should shelter-in-place”. The advisory added.

The Consulate has also issued precautionary steps to take by U.S. Citizens.

The step includes seeking secure shelter, having evacuation plans that do not rely on U.S. government assistance, having travel documents up to date and easily accessible, monitoring local media for updates, and carrying proper identification and cooperating with the authorities.

The Advisory also states that the U.S. Embassy and Consulates in Pakistan will send updates as needed through their messaging system, adding that every US citizen should make sure that they are enrolled in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program(STEP).
