ISLAMABAD: YouTuber Agha Sheikh Sarwar was allegedly abducted by agency officials from his house for live coverage of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest at Islamabad’s D Chowk.
Imran Khan’s party members rallied in Islamabad to push for the release of the incarcerated leader who remained behind bars for more than a year, facing a plethora of cases including sedition, attempted murder, and inciting rebellion.
Agha Sarwar is a garden supporter of Imran Khan. Covered the protest and now the YouTuber has been taken to an undisclosed location along with PTI activist Umar Malik.
The PTI lamented the lawlessness and alleged that when Agha’s father and mother resisted, they were also attacked. The officials of the agencies vandalized the doors and other furniture of the house.
The incident raises concerns about freedom of expression and the safety of media personnel in the country, especially during politically charged events.
Authorities are yet to release details about the circumstances of Sarwar’s abduction. The incident is expected to spark further outrage and demands for accountability among civil rights groups and media organizations.
