ISLAMABAD: Meta, the parent of Instagram, has rolled out Instagram’s Teen Accounts in partnership with the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).
Teen accounts aim to increase online protection for Pakistani young users with more controls.
The feature automatically moves users under 16 into Teen Accounts, limiting unwanted contact and filtering sensitive content, but enabling safe digital discovery.
The Teen Accounts launch was witnessed by Meta, UNICEF/NCRC, and other major child protection stakeholders’ representatives.
The event featured live demos and awareness sessions on online safety features, complaint channels, and best youth digital wellbeing practices.
In addressing the ceremony, PTA Chairman Major General (R) Hafeez ur Rehman, HI (M) SI, reaffirmed PTA’s mission to create a safer digital environment, asserting that the introduction of Teen Accounts should assist in safeguarding Pakistan’s youth online.
Dr. Priyanka Bhalla, South Asia Head of Safety Policy at Meta, welcomed the persistent cooperation of PTA, adding that Meta’s safety efforts globally are giving millions of teenagers across the world, including Pakistan, the opportunity to have a safe online experience.
