Heatwave to persist across Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: While the plains are expected to be extremely hot, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) stated on Sunday that most of the country should experience hot and dry weather. But for the time being, the extreme heat has passed; the meteorological patterns are likely to shift towards light rain and clouds today.

Partly overcast weather is expected to affect the Northeast and South Punjab, Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Upper/South East Sindh, North East Balochistan, Kashmir, and Gilgit Baltistan late today. In a few areas, there is also a chance of wind and thundershowers. Hail may also occur in some regions during this time, according to PMD.

The met department said, going geographically, that Islamabad and its surroundings during daytime are expected to be hot and somewhat cloudy. Though it should rain at a few locations during the evening and night hours with heavy gusts and thundershowers.

In most Punjab areas, it is probably going to be hot and partly cloudy as well. At a few locations in Murree, Gulyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Rawalpindi, Sialkot, Narowal, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Sargodha, Bhakkar, Hafizabad, Mandi Bahauddin, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Faisalabad, Jhang, Sahiwal, Bahawalnagar, Rahim Yar Khan, Layyah, Multan, Bahawalpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, and neighbouring regions, rain with gusty winds and thundershowers are predicted. Some areas during this time might also see hail.

Most upper regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa would also experience partly overcast circumstances. Along with rain with strong winds, and thundershowers today, will be Dir, Swat, Malakand, Shangla, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Peshawar, Khyber, Orakzai, Kurram, Kohat, Karak, and Waziristan.

The weather will probably be very hot and muggy in most areas of Sindh. But Umarkot and neighboring areas, including Sukkur, Ghotki, Khairpur, Jacobabad, Shikarpur, Mithi, and Mirpurkha,s should remain partly cloudy with gusts and rain at some locations.

In most areas of Balochistan, too, the weather is likely to be hot and dry. But rain with gale winds and sporadic rains is probable in Quetta, Ziarat, Pishin, Mastung, Kalat, Dera Bugti, Sibi, Zhob, Musakhel, Barkhan, Khuzdar, Lasbela, Loralai, and adjacent regions.

At a few sites, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir are predicted to stay partially cloudy with gusty winds and rain.
