KARACHI: K-Electric has issued a safety advisory for Karachi as rain-bearing weather conditions continue, with parts of the metropolis already experiencing heavy showers on Thursday afternoon.

The power utility said the situation is being closely monitored, while field teams remain on high alert to respond to any emergencies during the wet spell.

The spokesperson of the organization issued a statement that advised residents to use electrical appliances with extreme caution because of impending rainfall and strong winds, which present dangerous conditions that can cause fatal accidents through electrocution.

The utility recommended that people not operate electrical devices, including water pumps, under conditions of rainwater or standing water.

The utility warned people about the dangers of approaching damaged power lines and electricity facilities and overhead TV and internet wires, which can create life-threatening situations during severe weather.

K-Electric further explained that illegal power connections, which people refer to as “kundas,” present an extreme danger that can lead to deadly accidents, especially when it rains.

The K-Electric helpline at 118 serves as the contact point for emergencies, while residents can access help through the K-Electric Live App, WhatsApp service, and official social media channels.

The utility reported that it will temporarily cut electricity supply to particular locations during rainfall as a safety measure. The power restoration process will commence after the weather improves and field teams declare the network safe for operation.
