NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a phone call from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Friday, June 13, 2025, as tensions escalated between Israel and Iran.

Netanyahu briefed Modi on the evolving situation after Israel launched “Operation Rising Lion,” a series of airstrikes targeting Iran’s nuclear and military facilities.

During the call, Modi expressed India’s concerns and emphasized the need for early restoration of peace and stability in the region.

Received a phone call from the PM of Israel. He briefed me on the evolving situation. I shared India’s concerns and emphasized the need for early restoration of peace and stability in the region,” Modi posted on X.

The Israeli operation reportedly resulted in the deaths of several senior military commanders and nuclear scientists, including General Amir Ali Hajizadeh, Major General Mohammad Bagheri, Major General Hossein Salami, and Major General Gholam Ali Rashid. Netanyahu described the operation as “a very successful opening strike”.

In response to the escalation, India’s Ministry of External Affairs urged both sides to avoid any escalatory steps and advised Indian nationals in the region to exercise caution. The situation remains volatile, with potential implications for regional stability.
