Trump unveils 20-point Gaza ceasefire plan; Hamas to review proposal

NEW YORK: US President Donald Trump announced the Gaza peace deal during a press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu and said that all Muslim and Arab countries have agreed to it.

According to a report prepared by The Washington Post, with confirmation from officials of two governments, these points include an immediate ceasefire.

a freeze on the current war fronts, the release of all 20 living hostages within 48 hours, and the return of the remains of 24 dead hostages.

Under the proposed agreement, after the release of all hostages, Israel will release 250 life-sentenced Palestinian prisoners as well as 1,700 Gaza citizens arrested after October 7, 2023, including women and children.

In addition, the proposed agreement also includes the destruction of all Hamas offensive weapons, a general amnesty for Hamas fighters who surrender, and safe passage for Hamas members who wish to leave Gaza.

The US President’s 20-point agenda includes the immediate provision of humanitarian aid to Gaza, the equitable distribution of aid, no forced evictions from Gaza, the right of return for those returning to Gaza, and Hamas’s no role in Gaza’s future.

The plan includes the creation of a temporary interim government in Gaza, consisting of Palestinians and international experts, which will operate under a new international organization. Additionally, it entails the deployment of a temporary international security force in Gaza.

The reconstruction of Gaza under the Trump Economic Development Plan and reforms to the Palestinian Authority to take control of Gaza in the future are part of the plan.

The proposed agreement, in addition to the presence of an unclear scope, provides for a phased withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza; Israel will not be allowed to reoccupy or annex Gaza, and Israel will not carry out further attacks on Qatar.

The peace plan also includes points to open a credible path for the establishment of a Palestinian state upon the completion of development and political reforms, and to establish a negotiation process between Israel and Palestine for peaceful and prosperous coexistence.

The US President has said that all Muslim countries have supported this peace plan. He said that Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir have also announced their full support for this plan.

The US President said that Arab and Muslim leaders have supported this plan, the presidents of Turkey and Indonesia are with me, the Prime Minister of Pakistan, and the Field Marshal have also supported the peace agreement.

Trump said in a press conference that the Israeli Prime Minister has recognized the peace agreement, and an agreement was also reached with Netanyahu regarding Iran. I am grateful to the Israeli Prime Minister for recognizing the peace agreement.

The US President said that we will work for peace and stability in the region. I think we will get a positive response from Hamas.

He said that if Hamas rejects the agreement, Israel will have my full support to eliminate Hamas.

The US President said that the new government in Palestine will consist of Palestinians and experts from around the world, and ending the Gaza war is a small part of a larger vision for peace in the Middle East.

Trump said that former British Prime Minister Tony Blair also wants to join the plan; other names will be released in the coming days.

Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu

In a press conference, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu supported Trump’s proposed peace plan and said that he supports your ceasefire plan; this agreement will ensure that Gaza will never be a threat to Israel.

Netanyahu said that the plan is consistent with Israel’s principles regarding the end of the war, and that Israel will complete its work if Hamas rejects the plan.

US President Trump and the Israeli Prime Minister did not take questions during the press conference.

Hamas’ reaction to the Peace Plan

Qatar and Egypt have delivered US President Donald Trump’s Gaza peace plan to the Palestinian resistance group Hamas’s negotiating team.

A diplomatic source confirmed to Al Jazeera that Hamas had received a copy of the proposed plan. According to the report, the Hamas team has assured the mediators that they will study the plan presented by President Trump.

According to reports, there was no contact or reaction from Hamas on the support.

Earlier, the Hamas leader had said that he had not received the Gaza peace plan in writing; however, Arab media have now reported that Qatar and Egypt have provided support to Hamas’ negotiating teams on the Gaza peace plan.
