Pakistan\u2019s Pakistani freelancers foreign exchange<\/strong> earnings crossed $557 million in the first half of the 2025-26 financial year. This strong growth shows the rising global demand for Pakistan\u2019s digital services. It also highlights the growing role of freelancers in supporting the country\u2019s economy.<\/p>\n

According to the State Bank of Pakistan<\/span><\/span>, freelancers working in computer and information services earned $557 million from July to December 2025. In comparison, they earned $352 million during the same period last year. As a result, earnings increased by 58 percent within one year.<\/p>\n

This sharp rise shows that Pakistani professionals are gaining trust in global markets. Many freelancers work in software development, graphic design, digital marketing, and content creation. Therefore, their services continue to attract international clients.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the government has taken several steps to support this growth. Federal IT Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja<\/span><\/span> said authorities are improving broadband services and digital payment systems. She added that these efforts will help freelancers earn more and reach new markets.<\/p>\n

In addition, freelancers can now keep up to 50 percent of their income in foreign currency accounts. Those registered with the Pakistan Software Export Board<\/span><\/span> also benefit from a low tax rate of 0.25 percent. These measures aim to bring freelancers into the formal economy and increase exports.<\/p>\n

An earlier report by the Asian Development Bank<\/span><\/span> estimated that Pakistan has around 2.37 million freelancers. This large workforce continues to rank among the top performers on global freelancing platforms.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, Ibrahim Amin<\/span><\/span>, Chairman of the Pakistan Freelancers Association<\/span><\/span>, said freelancers are helping increase foreign exchange reserves. He noted that freelancing also creates jobs and encourages young people to start independent careers.<\/p>\n

Experts believe this trend will continue if the government maintains its support. Officials at the Ministry of IT and Telecommunication<\/span><\/span> expect freelance earnings to cross $1 billion by the end of the fiscal year.<\/p>\n
