His representatives confirmed his death on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Michael Pennington gained international fame for his role as \u2018Moff Jargerd\u2019 in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, but he was considered one of the leading Shakespearean actors in British theater. He was also an honorary associate artist of the Royal Shakespeare Company.<\/p>\n<p>He founded the \u2018English Shakespeare Company\u2019 with theater director Michael Bogdanov and gave brilliant performances in Shakespeare\u2019s plays for decades.<\/p>\n<p>Celebrities associated with the arts expressed deep sorrow and grief upon his death. Renowned actress Miriam Margulies described him as an intelligent, dignified and exceptionally talented artist.<\/p>\n<p>Born in Cambridge in 1943, Michael Pennington began his TV career in 1965 with the BBC series The War of the Roses.
