PMD<\/a>) , a moderate westerly weather system has moved into the upper regions of Pakistan and is currently impacting several areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan.<\/p>\nIn the advisory it was said that intermittent rain, plus windstorms and thunderstorms are expected. This will come along with isolated bursts of really heavy downpours, mainly in vulnerable mountainous catchment zones during the current spell of weather.<\/p>\n
Because of the current conditions , the risk of GLOF, debris flows, and sudden flash flooding has gone up in vulnerable places, especially in Swat, Chitral, Dir, Ghizer, Hunza, Nagar, Diamer, Ghanche, Shigar, and Astore.<\/p>\n
The PMD\u2019s GLOF Monitoring Cell is closely tracking the precipitation readings in gauged areas , particularly across the valleys of Parishing, Sosat, Reshun Booni, Arkari, Matiltan, Mankeyal, Hisper-Hooper, Strangbut, Arandu, and Ghulkin.<\/p>\n
Residents in glaciated valleys and other at-risk areas are urged to stay away from riverbanks and stream beds during rainfall, and to keep notice for sudden changes in water colour, or any unusual sounds, that could hint at debris movement.<\/p>\n
Local authorities also asked people to shift livestock and necessary belongings to safer, higher ground , and continue coordinating with Community-Based Disaster Risk Management Committees.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile disaster management teams have been told to remain on high alert, round the clock , and take every required precaution so that nothing untoward happens.
