ISLAMABAD: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA<\/a>) has issued an alert from today to June 15 in view of the threat of heavy rains, flash floods, and landslides in the upper parts of the country.<\/p>\n

According to the NDMA, there is a possibility of rain with gusty winds and thunderstorms in Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Azad Kashmir.<\/p>\n

Due to the rains, flash floods may occur at the local level, while flooding in rivers and rainwater waterways has also been predicted.<\/p>\n

According to the agency, there is a risk of flash flooding in the mountainous areas of Chitral, Shangla, Kohistan, Battagram, and Mansehra. Similarly, heavy rains may cause flooding in Muzaffarabad, Neelum Valley, Bagh,, and Rawalakot in Azad Kashmir.<\/p>\n

In the districts of Ghizer, Diamer, Gilgit, Tangir, Daril, and Gips Yasin of Gilgit-Baltistan, there is a risk of flooding in rivers and canals. The NDMA has warned that landslides may also occur in Gilgit-Baltistan and adjacent mountainous areas between June 12 and 15.<\/p>\n

According to the alert, there is a risk of temporary road closures and travel difficulties at various points along the Karakoram Highway (KKH) and the Jaglot-Skardu Road as a result of heavy rain and potential landslides.<\/p>\n

Citizens have been advised to avoid unnecessary stays near rivers, streams, and low-lying areas that may be vulnerable to flooding during the wet spell.<\/p>\n

Tourists planning to visit mountainous regions have also been urged to postpone non-essential travel during periods of heavy rainfall and to remain updated on weather and road conditions before undertaking any journey.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast rain in several parts of the country, including Islamabad, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh and Balochistan.<\/p>\n

Authorities have advised travelers and residents to exercise caution, follow official advisories, and avoid unnecessary travel in areas prone to landslides and flash floods.<\/p>\n

Emergency and road maintenance teams have been placed on alert to respond to any weather-related incidents and ensure the restoration of traffic flow where required.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
