Government presents budget for new Fiscal Year in assembly"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>LAHORE: The most important session of the Punjab Assembly has begun under the chairmanship of Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmed Khan, in which <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/business\/punjab-budget-2026-27-to-be-presented-in-assembly-today\/\">Provincial Finance Minister Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman<\/a> has started presenting the provincial budget for the new fiscal year before the House.<\/p>\n<p>At the beginning of the session, opposition members opposed the budget and protested vigorously in front of the Speaker\u2019s seat and started shouting slogans against the government, due to which there was a lot of uproar in the House.<\/p>\n<p>Despite this turbulent situation and strong protests from the opposition, Finance Minister Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman has continued his budget speech.<\/p>\n<p>Addressing the budget session, he said that the total budget volume for the fiscal year 2026-27 is being proposed at Rs 5903 billion 46 crore, which is 10.7% more than the current fiscal year.<\/p>\n<p>The ongoing expenditure is estimated at Rs 1962 billion 93 crore, which is 3.1 percent less than the current fiscal year, the main reason for which is the government\u2019s austerity drive.<\/p>\n<p>In the next fiscal year, the salaries of government employees are being increased by 7 percent, due to which the salary expenditure will increase by only 1.4 percent to Rs 638 billion 93 crore, which is the result of the government\u2019s Rightsizing policy.<\/p>\n<p>In the next fiscal year, a 3.5 percent increase is being proposed in the pension of retired government employees, which will bring the province\u2019s pension expenditure to Rs 500 billion 12 crore.<\/p>\n<p>In order to provide services to the people at the Grass Root level, a huge amount of Rs 803 billion 88 crore is being allocated for local government institutions under the PFC award, with an increase of 5.2 percent.<\/p>\n<p>The expenditure on service delivery will be Rs 783.2 billion, of which Rs 578.62 billion is for the daily expenses of the institutions, which is 5.1 percent less than the previous fiscal year due to the effective measures taken by the government.<\/p>\n<p>The provincial finance minister further said that Rs 679.1 billion is also being proposed to be made part of the budget for the next fiscal year under current capital expenditure.<\/p>\n<h2>Rs 66.4 billion allocated for laptop program<\/h2>\n<p>This budget has allocated huge funds for youth and students, under which Rs 66.4 billion has been provided for the Chief Minister Punjab Laptop Program and Rs 33.25 billion for the Chief Minister Honhar Scholarship Program.<\/p>\n<p>Along with this, Rs 4 billion will be provided for the Maryam Nawaz Academic Leadership Center Lahore, Rs 1 billion for providing bicycles to students and Rs 10 million for providing transport facilities to female students.<\/p>\n<h2>Rs 7.4 billion for STEM labs in government schools<\/h2>\n<p>To improve the quality of schools, Rs 7.4 billion has been approved for STEM labs in government schools, Rs 7 billion for the Chief Minister Punjab Schools Meal Program and installation of filtration plants for clean drinking water.<\/p>\n<p>Proposals to launch the first phase of the School Based Skill Development Program in Lahore and release Rs 175.5 million for the Murree Boy Scouts Summer Training Center are also part of the document.<\/p>\n<p>The budget also includes major initiatives for higher education and university infrastructure, under which Rs 4 billion has been allocated for the second phase of IT labs in Punjab colleges and Rs 4 billion for the renovation and renovation of GC University Lahore.<\/p>\n<p>More than Rs 1.39 billion has been allocated for the construction of the Sialkot Women&#8217;s University building, Rs 1.5488 billion for the campus building of the University of Chakwal City, Rs 500 million for the establishment of the University of Gujranwala and Rs 267.2 million for the University of Hafizabad.<\/p>\n<h2>Sub-campuses of Autism School in all divisions<\/h2>\n<p>In the field of special education, approval has been given to build sub-campuses of Maryam Nawaz Autism School in all divisions of Punjab, while the Chief Minister&#8217;s Mail Program will also be started for special children.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, Rs 285 million has been allocated for the building of a middle school for special children in Murree, Rs 440 million for the training college for teachers of blind children in Lahore, while funds have been allocated for special education centers and college buildings in Kot Addo, Wazirabad and Rawalpindi.<\/p>\n<h2>Rs 3.58 billion to increase literacy rate<\/h2>\n<p>According to the budget document, Rs 3.58 billion has been allocated to increase the quality of education and literacy rate in Punjab, while Rs 1.1 billion has been proposed for new non-formal schools in 15 districts of the province, Rs 2.40 billion for the non-formal project of South Punjab and Rs 2.36 billion for the non-formal project of Central Punjab. The Chief Minister&#8217;s Special Adult Literacy Program has also been approved for 150,000 illiterate people.<\/p>\n<h2>Huge funds have also been proposed for sports and entertainment<\/h2>\n<p>Funds have been allocated to build an international standard Maryam Nawaz Sports City in Lahore for sports and entertainment of the youth, and the Chief Minister Punjab Khelata Punjab Card will be issued to promote sports across the province.<\/p>\n<p>An international squash and indoor sports facility will be established in Nishtar Park Sports Complex, Lahore, while there is a possibility of building open-air gyms and children&#8217;s play areas in the PHA parks of the province. The Chief Minister\u2019s Youth Engagement Program will be launched for the youth and funds have been allocated for sports complexes in Bhurban and Kot Addu areas of Murree.<\/p>\n<h2>Health: Proposal to establish new medical institutes<\/h2>\n<p>In the health sector, the Maryam Nawaz government has announced the establishment of major medical institutes, under which a huge amount of Rs 26.22 billion has been allocated for the Nawaz Sharif Cancer Institute in Lahore.<\/p>\n<p>Rs 6 billion has been allocated for the Maryam Nawaz Institute of Cardiology in Gujranwala, Rs 15.45 billion for the rehabilitation and establishment of Maryam Nawaz Health Clinics, while Rs 5.78 billion has been allocated for the Urban Maryam Nawaz Health Clinics in Lahore. Rs 1 billion has been allocated for Maryam Nawaz Sharif Medical College in Mianwali, Rs 4.9 billion for the establishment of a children\u2019s hospital in Rawalpindi, over Rs 1 billion for a modern children\u2019s hospital in Bahawalpur and Rs 500 million for the Kulsoom Nawaz Cancer Hospital in Dera Ghazi Khan.<\/p>\n<p>Rs 11.11 billion has been allocated for the Universal Health Coverage Program in Punjab, while Rs 530 million has been allocated for improving laboratory testing facilities in secondary hospitals.<\/p>\n<p>Centers of Excellence for nursing education will be established in Rawalpindi and Multan, and special funds from the Chief Minister have been released for dialysis and transplant programs, among other manufacturing and health issues.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>LAHORE: The most important session of the Punjab Assembly has begun under the chairmanship of Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmed Khan, in which Provincial Finance Minister Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman has started presenting the provincial budget for the new fiscal year before the House.
