{"id":117888,"date":"2026-07-10T18:00:12","date_gmt":"2026-07-10T13:00:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/?p=117888"},"modified":"2026-07-10T18:00:12","modified_gmt":"2026-07-10T13:00:12","slug":"kp-govt-announces-free-wifi-for-public","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/pakistan\/kp-govt-announces-free-wifi-for-public\/","title":{"rendered":"KP govt announces free wifi for public"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government formally kicked off its \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/pakistan\/punjab-cm-maryam-announced-free-wifi-to-22-cities\/\">KP Open Wi-Fi<\/a>\u2019 project, providing free internet access at several prominent public locations throughout the city of Peshawar. The project was ceremonially inaugurated by Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi today.<\/p>\n<p>The project\u2019s first phase provides free Wi-Fi on the premises of some of the most significant government hospitals as well as public transport facilities in the capital.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, the CM revealed that this project will shortly be expanded to include all of KP\u2019s public universities and colleges.<\/p>\n<p>He added that the state government had planned for this project to expand from Peshawar over time, noting that an upcoming stage would roll out free public Wi-Fi coverage in Abbottabad, Mardan, Swat, Kohat, Bannu &amp; Dera Ismail Khan \u2014 which are all of the divisions\u2019 headquarters in the province.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cKhyber Pakhtunkhwa has made 70-80 percent progress towards its digital governance journey,\u201d he added, stressing that his government was working on providing \u201cpaperless\u201d public services in phases.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur digital services journey aligns well with the vision set out by our party (PTI) founder Imran Khan of ensuring these services are accessible to all citizens,\u201d Afridi said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn today\u2019s environment where there\u2019s greater internet connectivity, we\u2019re seeing many new employment and business opportunities emerging as people seek them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Chief Minister welcomed the fast growing e-commerce industry across Pakistan, which has given rise to new avenues for entrepreneurialism and other types of economic activity, he said, adding that generating such opportunities for the country\u2019s youth continues to be one of his government\u2019s top priorities.<\/p>\n<p>He condemned internet slowdowns and shutdowns as causing \u201cnegative effects on our youth, businesses and our digital economy\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Many of the newly merged districts still do not have access to even basic telecommunications infrastructure.
