Finance Minister Ishaq Dar<\/a> has said that the United States cannot stop Pakistan from purchasing oil from Russia, which is going to be possible soon.<\/p>\n

Addressing a press conference in Dubai, the minister said that Pakistan will try to purchase oil from Russia on similar terms as India has with the oil-producing country.<\/p>\n

He said that the matter came under discussion in his meeting with the officials of the US State Department, where the US authorities were informed that they cannot stop Islamabad from buying oil from Moscow as our neighbour, India was also buying oil from Russia.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the next few months, you will see the government is taking important steps in this regard,\u201d added the finance minister.<\/p>\n

Moving on, Dar slammed PTI\u2019s government for sinking Pakistan\u2019s economy in their four-year tenure, saying that economy faced a negative impact when the dollar spiralled due to Pakistan\u2019s decision to move to a market-based exchange rate.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe economy was destroyed in four years. Pakistan was on the verge of becoming a Sri Lanka instead of Singapore,” he said.<\/p>\n

The minister went on to say that the incumbent government would take different measures to boost the economy.<\/p>\n

Dar added that the change of government was decided to save the state and the incumbent government was trying to provide relief to the people, in addition to controlling fuel prices.<\/p>\n

While commenting on the rising dollar rates before he took over as the finance minister, Dar said the country\u2019s debt increased by Rs4 trillion. He promised to maintain a balance between the price of the dollar and the rupee.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will try to depreciate the dollar below Rs200. Our government is determined to improve the rupee\u2019s value against the dollar,\u201d the minister said on plans to ensure currency balance. The finance minister said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is implementing economic reforms to bring the economy back on its feet.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will complete the IMF programme. Around $32 billion to $34 billion are required for the current financial year. We hope to collect the amount,\u201d Dar said speaking about the funds to be received from global financial institutions.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
