{"id":14483,"date":"2023-03-02T14:41:51","date_gmt":"2023-03-02T14:41:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/?p=14483"},"modified":"2023-03-02T14:41:51","modified_gmt":"2023-03-02T14:41:51","slug":"ecp-assures-ihc-of-holding-lg-polls-in-islamabad-within-120-days","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/pakistan\/ecp-assures-ihc-of-holding-lg-polls-in-islamabad-within-120-days\/","title":{"rendered":"ECP assures IHC of holding LG polls in Islamabad within 120 days"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ecp.gov.pk\/\">Election Commission of Pakistan<\/a> (ECP) on Thursday assured the Islamabad High Court (IHC) of holding local government elections in the federal capital within 120 days.<\/p>\n<p>The court disposed of the intra-court appeals after the assurance of the electoral watchdog.<\/p>\n<p>The ECP and the federal government had filed separate intra-court appeals against the ruling of IHC\u2019s single bench to conduct LG-polls in Islamabad on December 31, 2022.<\/p>\n<p>Today, a two-member bench headed by IHC Chief Justice Aamir Farooq conducted the hearing of the intra-court appeals.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe legislation has been done. Are the 125 UCs still there,\u201d Justice Farooq asked.<\/p>\n<p>The judge said that the government has kept the authority of further increasing the number of UCs to itself.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Read more:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/pakistan\/ihc-grants-interim-bail-to-imran-khan-in-attempted-murder-case.html\">IHC grants interim bail to Imran Khan in attempted murder case<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn my opinion, there won\u2019t be a need of increasing the UCs for 10 years,\u201d he said, adding that the LG elections should be conducted at once.<\/p>\n<p>At this, the ECP officials assured the court of holding the LG-polls in Islamabad within 120 days.<\/p>\n<p>The court then asked the interior secretary if he would give a statement that the government will not increase the number of UCs before the elections.<\/p>\n<p>At this, the ECP officials said that the electoral body will give the schedule of LG polls after conducting new delimitation.<\/p>\n<p>After the completion of arguments and assurance by ECP, the IHC disposed of the intra-court appeals of the ECP and the government.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Thursday assured the Islamabad High Court (IHC) of holding local government elections in the federal capital within 120 days.
