PTI chief Barrister Gohar Ali Khan says hurdles are being created for their workers to participate in polls<\/p>\n
Imran Khan, the founder of the jailed Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), will run in at least three constituencies in the general elections that are set for February 8 of next year, the party announced on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
Speaking to the media outside the Adiala jail in Rawalpindi, PTI Senator Ali Zafar stated that the election schedule has already been announced, meaning the Islamabad High Court (IHC) would soon make public its Toshakhana reserved verdict.<\/p>\n
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) disqualified former premier Imran for five years from holding any public office following the Toshakhana case verdict on August 8 after he was found guilty of \u201ccorrupt practices under Section 167 of the Elections Act, 2017\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe want to inform you that Imran Khan will contest elections from at least three constituencies and we hope that the IHC will announce its judgment soon in the Toshakhana case, as the election schedule has been issued,” he added.<\/p>\n
He said the IHC would also rule on PTI\u2019s appeal that sought suspension of the former PM\u2019s conviction in the Toshkhana case.<\/p>\n
The PTI senator also called upon workers to submit their nomination papers for the upcoming polls, saying the party would prioritise the jailed members for tickets to contest the elections.<\/p>\n
\u201cThose [workers] who rendered sacrifices for the party, facing cases and braving difficulties will be allotted [party] tickets 100%,\u201d the PTI senator said.<\/p>\n
Speaking on the occasion, PTI chief Barrister Gohar said Imran will contest polls from the Lahore, Islamabad and Mianwali constituencies.<\/p>\n
He also opposed the top lawyers\u2019 bodies’ demand seeking the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikander Sultan Raja, saying his party did not make any such demand.<\/p>\n
