{"id":2186,"date":"2019-07-16T09:02:14","date_gmt":"2019-07-16T09:02:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/?p=2186"},"modified":"2019-07-16T09:02:14","modified_gmt":"2019-07-16T09:02:14","slug":"kuwait-to-issue-virtual-telecom-operator-licence","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/world\/kuwait-to-issue-virtual-telecom-operator-licence\/","title":{"rendered":"Kuwait to issue virtual telecom operator licence"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>DUBAI:<\/strong>\u00a0Kuwait is to issue a virtual telecom operator licence, effectively creating a fourth player in a market serving roughly 4 million people.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-7\">\n<p>Virtual network operators do not own the networks they use to provide communications services but instead lease capacity from conventional operators, usually paying them a percentage of their revenue as well as fees.<\/p>\n<div>\n<div class=\"aspectRateFixed pro-player-ipm pro-player-ipm-hidden force-hide-player\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-1\">\n<div id=\"1IAVjdRivDnAWhLnxgAP1f8YetSAF85PBzVEpAdzD2E_T7xaFonJ\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Kuwait\u2019s Communications and Information Technology Regulatory Authority has issued a request for applications for the license, according to a document seen by Reuters.<\/p>\n<p>State news agency KUNA also reported a licence would be granted.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-2\"><\/div>\n<p>Applications must be submitted by Nov. 14, 2019 and the selected application will be announced by Feb. 6, 2020, the document shows.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Conditions<\/strong><br \/>\nThe applicant will have to partner with a company that can provide it with the technology, know-how and operational and management experience.<\/p>\n<p>The partner will also own at least 40 percent of shares and have a five-year management agreement. Kuwait\u2019s current telecom providers are Zain, Ooredoo, and Viva. Kuwait\u2019s existing telecom providers, as well as anyone holding 25 percent or more shares in Kuwaiti telecom companies, are not allowed to apply.<\/p>\n<p>Foreign ownership would be subject to Kuwaiti law, which restricts non-Kuwaitis to minority ownership.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>DUBAI:\u00a0Kuwait is to issue a virtual telecom operator licence, effectively creating a fourth player in a market serving roughly 4 million people.
