{"id":2243,"date":"2019-07-18T07:28:34","date_gmt":"2019-07-18T07:28:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/?p=2243"},"modified":"2019-07-18T08:02:50","modified_gmt":"2019-07-18T08:02:50","slug":"sc-issues-notice-to-tlp-chief-khadim-rizvi-on-punjab-govts-petition-for-bail-cancellation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/pakistan\/sc-issues-notice-to-tlp-chief-khadim-rizvi-on-punjab-govts-petition-for-bail-cancellation\/","title":{"rendered":"SC issues notice to TLP chief Khadim Rizvi on Punjab govt&#8217;s petition for bail cancellation"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"template__header clearfix modifier--open px-1 \">\n<h2 class=\"story__title size-ten mt-1 pb-3 border--bottom\" data-layout=\"story\" data-id=\"1494788\"><\/h2>\n<div class=\"block sm-inline-block clearfix float-none sm-float-right\">\n<div class=\"social social--icon social--black social--flat social--twitter float-left mr-1 my-2 \"><\/div>\n<div class=\"social hidden sm-block social--print social--icon social--black social--flat float-left mr-1 my-2\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"template__main clearfix modifier--open px-1 modifier--widedefault modifier--blockquote-center-narrow \">\n<div class=\"story__content pt-1 mt-1\">\n<p>A two-member bench of the apex court, comprising Justice Manzoor Ahmed Malik and Justice Qazi Mohammad Amin Ahmed, took up the provincial government&#8217;s petition at the Supreme Court Lahore registry.<\/p>\n<p>The bench asked the Additional Prosecutor General Mazhar Sher Awan what Rizvi&#8217;s main crime was.<\/p>\n<p>Awan responded that the TLP chief had given speeches against the judiciary and riled up people.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;These are the facts of the case, speak about the law and tells us Khadim Hussain Rizvi&#8217;s crime,&#8221; said Judge Malik.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;What is wrong with the high court&#8217;s decision to release Khadim Hussain Rizvi on bail?&#8221; he asked.<\/p>\n<p>The apex court expressed displeasure with the additional prosecutor general for being unable to provide the court with proper assistance.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;You don&#8217;t know the merits of the case; who drafted it?&#8221; Judge Malik asked, adding: &#8220;How many individuals&#8217; bail do you want to have cancelled?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Awan said that they had only submitted a petition for the cancellation of bail for Rizi and Ata Mohammad.<\/p>\n<p>The judge asked if Awan had read the case file, as Mohammad was the complainant of the case and the additional prosecutor general was referring to him as a suspect.<\/p>\n<p>The SC issued notices to the TLP chief on the Punjab government&#8217;s appeal and adjourned proceedings.<\/p>\n<p>Rizvi and the then TLP patron-in-chief, Pir Afzal Qadri \u2014 who is also nominated in the same case \u2014 were\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1482238\">granted bail<\/a>\u00a0in May this year. Qadri&#8217;s bail expired on July 15 but was\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1494271\/tlp-leaders-post-arrest-bail-extended\">extended<\/a>\u00a0on medical grounds.<\/p>\n<p>The two were taken into &#8220;protective custody&#8221; by the state during a crackdown in November 2018 after the TLP announced it would observe martyrs\u2019 day on Nov 25, 2018.<\/p>\n<p>The provincial government, in its appeal, has argued that the high court &#8220;did not fulfill legal requirements&#8221; in its decision to grant bail, which was made in May this year.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A two-member bench of the apex court, comprising Justice Manzoor Ahmed Malik and Justice Qazi Mohammad Amin Ahmed, took up the provincial government&#8217;s petition at the Supreme Court Lahore registry.
