{"id":26652,"date":"2024-02-21T12:07:37","date_gmt":"2024-02-21T07:07:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/?p=26652"},"modified":"2024-02-21T12:07:37","modified_gmt":"2024-02-21T07:07:37","slug":"sc-disposes-plea-seeking-nullification-of-feb-8-polls","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/latest-news\/sc-disposes-plea-seeking-nullification-of-feb-8-polls\/","title":{"rendered":"SC disposes plea seeking nullification of Feb 8 polls"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Supreme Court of Pakistan Wednesday disposed of a plea seeking nullification\u00a0of Feb 8 polls\u00a0after the petitioner did not attend two consecutive hearings.<\/p>\n<p>The hearing on the petition to nullify the Feb 8 polls was conducted by a three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Qazi Faiz Isa, comprising Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar and Justice Musrat Hilali.<\/p>\n<p>The apex court had also imposed a fine of Rs500,000 on the petitioner over his absence from the hearing.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>READ MORe:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/pakistan\/sc-to-hear-petition-seeking-election-2024-null-and-void-today.html\">SC to hear petition seeking election 2024 null and void today<\/a><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>A citizen named Ali Khan filed the petition urging the court to order new elections within 30 days and ensure fairness, transparency, and accountability.<\/p>\n<p>CJP Qazi Faiz Isa said that the petitioner has harmed the country&#8217;s interest, and the petitioner has also harmed the reputation of the constitutional institutions.<\/p>\n<p>However, the court dismissed the petition due to the non-appearance of the petitioner.<\/p>\n<p>During the previous hearing, CJP Qazi Faez Isa had directed the relevant authorities to produce the petitioner before the court for a hearing.<\/p>\n<p>Chief Justice said, \u201cWhere is the petitioner?\u201d when the hearing commenced. Justice Mazhar remarked that petitioner Brig (retd) Ali Khan had moved a plea to withdraw his petition against the general elections on February 13.<\/p>\n<p>The CJP had remarked, \u201cIt is not possible. We will hear this petition.
