Islamabad: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has taken a step by allocating seats for women and minorities in the National and Provincial Assemblies following the rejection of a request from the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) for special seats.<\/p>\n
The ECP firmly turned down SIC’s plea for special seats earmarked for women and minorities. In response, the commission issued notifications detailing the allocation of specific seats across the country.<\/p>\n
In the National Assembly, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) secured four seats for women, while the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) each received two seats. Additionally, minority representation in the National Assembly was allocated with one seat each to PML-N, PTI, and PPP.<\/p>\n
Moving to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam was granted eight seats for women, while PML-N and PPP obtained five seats each. Similarly, minority representation in this assembly was distributed among PTI, PML-N, and PPP, with each party receiving one seat.<\/p>\n
In the Punjab Assembly, PPP secured two women seats, while PML-N was granted one seat. Meanwhile, in the Sindh Assembly, PPP and the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) were allotted one women seat each.<\/p>\n
