ISLAMABAD: The statement given by the former Chief Minister of Punjab (now Prime Minister) Shehbaz Sharif in the Faizabad Dharna Commission<\/a> came to light on Friday.<\/p>\n

In his statement to the Dharna Commission, he said that\u00a0no intelligence report regarding the ban on TLP\u00a0was shared\u00a0with the provincial government\u00a0and that he had no clue about the party’s sit-in plan.<\/p>\n

The now-prime minister\u00a0Shahbaz\u00a0Sharif\u00a0said\u00a0in his statement that a cabinet sub-committee for peace\u00a0was formed\u00a0on law and order matters in Punjab, the\u00a0committee consisted of the provincial law minister and some other\u00a0important\u00a0provincial ministers.<\/p>\n

Furthermore,\u00a0Shahbaz Sharif told the probe commission that\u00a0the Faizabad\u00a0sit-in\u00a0was not expected\u00a0at that time, DC\u00a0Rawalpindi, Commissioner, CPO, and\u00a0RPO had received\u00a0clear\u00a0instructions from the sub-committee for law and order.<\/p>\n

In the statement given, Shahbaz Sharif said that the government has banned organization under the strict criteria given\u00a0in the Anti-Terrorism Act.<\/p>\n

In the statement given to the Faizabad Dharna Commission, former Chief Minister Punjab also said that\u00a0as per\u00a0mandate\u00a0the ban could have been imposed by\u00a0the Ministry of Interior.<\/p>\n

Earlier, the commission formed to probe the Faizabad sit-in cleared former ISI chief Lt Gen Faiz Hameed of any wrongdoing and pinned the blame on the government of the time on April 16.<\/p>\n

According to former federal law minister Zahid Hamid, who also stated to the probe commission, junior officers of the ISI Lahore came to his house to take his resignation on November 26, 2017. The former spy chief Lt. Gen. Faiz Hameed, and the then DG Rangers Punjab can be seen in the videos distributing money to the protesters after the dharna ended.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

However, the report said that there was no link to establish the involvement of Faiz Hameed and former DG Rangers Maj Gen Naveed Azhar Hayat.<\/p>\n
