{"id":37453,"date":"2024-05-25T17:19:48","date_gmt":"2024-05-25T12:19:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/?p=37453"},"modified":"2024-05-25T17:19:48","modified_gmt":"2024-05-25T12:19:48","slug":"driver-accused-of-running-over-gaza-protestors-in-islamabad-handed-over-to-military-police","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/pakistan\/islamabad\/driver-accused-of-running-over-gaza-protestors-in-islamabad-handed-over-to-military-police\/","title":{"rendered":"Driver accused of running over Gaza protestors in Islamabad handed over to Military Police"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ISLAMABAD: A driver involved in hit and run case on Islamabad&#8217;s Jinnah Avenue which resulted in the death of two people has been handed over to the Military Police for legal proceedings as he turned out to be a lieutenant of the Pakistan Army.<\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Four people, including a police inspector, were also injured as the vehicle ran over the sleeping protestors of the &#8216;Save Gaza Campaign&#8217; just outside the Red Zone on Jinnah Avenue in solidarity with Gaza. <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cAt around 2:45 am<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, a speeding car appeared on the road, ran over five participants, <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">and<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0then crashed into a police barricade, hitting the inspector [on duty].\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> Subsequently, a case was registered at the Kohsar police station under sections 322, 337-G, 427, <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">and<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> 279 of the Pakistan Penal Code against the driver.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>READ MORE:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/pakistan\/islamabad-metro-bus-accident-several-people-injured\/\">Islamabad metro bus accident, several people injured<\/a><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Police spokesperson Taqi Jawad said the driver was a lieutenant in the army and the son of a brigadier. He was handed over to the MP for further legal action, the spokesperson said, adding that the senior army officer also resigned from the army after the incident.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>According to the police,<span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> the car involved in the accident was registered in the name of the accused&#8217;s father.
