{"id":42229,"date":"2024-07-12T22:36:57","date_gmt":"2024-07-12T17:36:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/?p=42229"},"modified":"2024-07-12T22:40:28","modified_gmt":"2024-07-12T17:40:28","slug":"ecp-announces-stance-on-scs-ruling-on-sic-reserved-seats","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/pakistan\/ecp-announces-stance-on-scs-ruling-on-sic-reserved-seats\/","title":{"rendered":"ECP announces stance on SC&#8217;s ruling on SIC reserved seats"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) announced its stance on the <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/latest-news\/reserved-seats-case-major-legal-victory-for-pti-as-sc-rules-in-favour-of-sic\/\">Supreme Court&#8217;s verdict<\/a> on the Sunni Ittehad Council&#8217;s appeal seeking a reserved seat denied by the ECP.<\/p>\n<p>Following the historic ruling, the electoral body claimed that it never said the <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/pakistan\/pti-likely-to-emerge-as-largest-party-in-na-after-scs-reserved-seats-ruling\/\">Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)<\/a> was not a political party.<\/p>\n<p>The ECP said Imran Khan-founded PTI was a political party with its name included in the list of political parties as mentioned on its website. Moreover, it said, the Election Commission had not misconceived any decision<span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, noting that <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">the bat symbol was taken away<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> after <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">PTI\u2019s intra-party elections were not <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">recognized<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In the SC&#8217;s detailed decision announced on Friday, as many as 39 Members of the National Assembly (MNAs) are declared to be with the PTI.<\/p>\n<p>The Election Commission sources further said the decision of the ECP had been\u00a0&#8220;upheld&#8221;. PTI&#8217;s intra-party elections were not valid, the logical consequence of which was that the bat symbol was withdrawn from it under Section 215 of the Elections Act.<\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Furthermore, the ECP has stated that the 41 candidates who <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">were given<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> independent status did not submit any party <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">affiliations,<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> and <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">therefore<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, could not <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">be considered<\/span> <span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">as<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> party candidates.
