{"id":42288,"date":"2024-07-13T20:12:41","date_gmt":"2024-07-13T15:12:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/?p=42288"},"modified":"2024-07-13T20:12:41","modified_gmt":"2024-07-13T15:12:41","slug":"goods-transporters-announce-strike-in-two-provinces-over-excessive-toll-tax","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/pakistan\/goods-transporters-announce-strike-in-two-provinces-over-excessive-toll-tax\/","title":{"rendered":"Goods transporters announce strike in two provinces over excessive toll tax"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>LAHORE: Following the <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/pakistan\/transport-association-announces-nationwide-strike-tomorrow-heres-why\/\">series of strikes<\/a> against a tax-heavy budget, the Pakistan Goods Transporters Association has also announced a strike in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from July 25.<\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">In a statement,<\/span>\u00a0Association <span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">president Nabeel Mahmood Tariq said that the strike was initially scheduled for July 15 but was postponed due to the sanctity of Muharram.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>He said, the strike was announced due to <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/business\/toll-tax-on-national-highways-motorways-increased-from-july-2024-details-inside\/\">excessive toll tax\u2019<\/a> and unjust fines, adding,<span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> that initially the strike will be observed in two provinces \u2013 Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa \u2013 and may expand it to other <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">provinces<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> if their demands <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">are <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">not met<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The goods transporters are protesting against the increase in toll tax every three months, and the exorbitant fines imposed on them. <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The association demanded an end to the <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">extortion system on highways<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> and the transfer of axle load to the motorway police. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The association president <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">warned that <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">if their demands <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">are not met<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">,<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> they will <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">be forced<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> to call a nationwide strike promoting a<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> disruption in goods transportation and supply chains <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">in the two provinces<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Earlier, t<span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">he government had announced a 30% increase, but most toll taxes have <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">been raised<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> by 35% to 40%. For 2 to 3-axle trucks, the toll tax on national highways has been increased from Rs120 to Rs150, and for large trucks from Rs250 to Rs350.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Similarly, on the M5, it has been increased from Rs3,280 to RS4,500, amounting to a 37% increase. <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">For axle trucks on the M3, the toll tax has <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">been increased<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> from Rs1,550 to Rs2,100<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, and for<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> buses, it has been raised from Rs.1200 to 1600.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>LAHORE: Following the series of strikes against a tax-heavy budget, the Pakistan Goods Transporters Association has also announced a strike in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from July 25.
