BERLIN: Substitute Mikel Oyarzabal scored a dramatic late winner as\u00a0Spain\u00a0triumphed in Sunday’s\u00a0Euro 2024\u00a0final, beating\u00a0England\u00a02-1 to confirm their re-emergence as a force on the international stage and end their opponents’ dreams of winning a first title in almost six decades.<\/span><\/p>\n

Spain lost influential midfielder Rodri to injury at <\/span>half-time<\/span>\u00a0but shrugged that off to take the lead within two minutes of the restart through Nico Williams, who <\/span>was set up<\/span> by his fellow star winger, Lamine Yamal.<\/span><\/p>\n

England came from behind as they have often done<\/span>\u00a0at this Euros, as substitute Cole Palmer drove in the <\/span>equalizer<\/span> on 73 minutes, moments after entering the fray.<\/span><\/p>\n

But their resurgence in the game was cut short as Oyarzabal, the Real Sociedad forward, turned in a cross in the 86th minute to hand Spain a record fourth European Championship <\/span>crown,<\/span> and a third in the last five editions.<\/span><\/p>\n

Spain <\/span>has<\/span> been comfortably the best team over the last month in\u00a0Germany\u00a0and <\/span>was<\/span> not intimidated by the atmosphere at the Olympiastadion, where <\/span>the majority<\/span> of the crowd <\/span>was<\/span> given over<\/span> to England’s cause.<\/span><\/p>\n

England had hoped to finally claim a first men’s international title since their fabled victory at the 1966 World <\/span>Cup<\/span>\u00a0but fell just short in their <\/span>first-ever<\/span> final on foreign soil. <\/span>After the agony of their defeat on penalties to Italy three years ago, they are the first side ever to lose back-to-back <\/span>Euro<\/span> finals.<\/span><\/p>\n
