{"id":42596,"date":"2024-07-19T16:16:44","date_gmt":"2024-07-19T11:16:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/?p=42596"},"modified":"2024-07-19T17:17:07","modified_gmt":"2024-07-19T12:17:07","slug":"ecp-decides-to-implement-supreme-courts-reserved-seats-verdict","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/pakistan\/ecp-decides-to-implement-supreme-courts-reserved-seats-verdict\/","title":{"rendered":"ECP decides to implement Supreme Court&#8217;s reserved seats verdict"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has announced its willingness to implement the Supreme Court&#8217;s verdict regarding the allocation of <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/latest-news\/reserved-seats-case-major-legal-victory-for-pti-as-sc-rules-in-favour-of-sic\/\">reserved seats<\/a> to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).<\/p>\n<p>Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) announced its verdict in the reserved seats case declaring the <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/pakistan\/pti-likely-to-emerge-as-largest-party-in-na-after-scs-reserved-seats-ruling\/\">party eligible for the allocation of reserved seats.<\/a> The full court bench, by a majority of 8, set aside the Peshawar High Court&#8217;s judgment of March 25 and declared the ECP order of March 1 null and void.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement issued after a meeting, the electoral watchdog said that the <span class=\"css-1jxf684 r-bcqeeo r-1ttztb7 r-qvutc0 r-poiln3\">legal team of the Election Commission<\/span> has been instructed to point out any possible hurdles in the implementation of the decision so the SC can be approached<span class=\"css-1jxf684 r-bcqeeo r-1ttztb7 r-qvutc0 r-poiln3\"> immediately for further guidance.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Bxk1pGL5NzU?si=p1XP1OUzsgS9s6Co\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"css-1jxf684 r-bcqeeo r-1ttztb7 r-qvutc0 r-poiln3\">ECP condemned and rejected the<\/span> continuous and unnecessary criticism of the Chief Election Commissioner and members of the Election Commission by a political party, the statement added. The statement quoted that the demand for resignation from the commission [CEC and members] is ridiculous.<\/p>\n<p>Moreover, the ECP stated that 39 <span class=\"css-1jxf684 r-bcqeeo r-1ttztb7 r-qvutc0 r-poiln3\">MNAs <\/span>who had been declared as PTI MNAs had shown their affiliation <span class=\"css-1jxf684 r-bcqeeo r-1ttztb7 r-qvutc0 r-poiln3\">with PTI in their nomination papers<\/span>, while to be a candidate of any party, it is necessary to submit the party ticket and declaration to the returning officer (RO).<\/p>\n<p>But in the case of the said MNAs, these documents were not submitted to the ROs; therefore the ROs couldn&#8217;t declare them PTI candidates, it added.<\/p>\n<p>Moreover, the statement added, &#8220;the 41 candidates who had been declared independents hadn&#8217;t mentioned PTI in their nomination papers neither they disclosed their affiliation with the party nor submitted the ticket of any party.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Therefore, the <span class=\"css-1jxf684 r-bcqeeo r-1ttztb7 r-qvutc0 r-poiln3\">Returning Officers (<\/span>ROs) allowed them to contest the election <span class=\"css-1jxf684 r-bcqeeo r-1ttztb7 r-qvutc0 r-poiln3\">in an independent capacity<\/span>.
