{"id":43294,"date":"2024-07-29T17:05:17","date_gmt":"2024-07-29T12:05:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/?p=43294"},"modified":"2024-07-29T19:09:16","modified_gmt":"2024-07-29T14:09:16","slug":"sbp-cuts-key-policy-rate-by-100bps-to-19-50pc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/business\/sbp-cuts-key-policy-rate-by-100bps-to-19-50pc\/","title":{"rendered":"SBP cuts key policy rate by 100bps to 19.50pc"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"content-area\" data-io-article-url=\"https:\/\/www.geo.tv\/latest\/556536-sbp-cuts-policy-rate-by-1-to-195\">\n<p>KARACHI: <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/business\/sbp-reserves-hit-two-year-high-after-another-weekly-increase\/\">State Bank of Pakistan (SBP)<\/a> decreased its interest rate by 100 basis points (bps) to 19.5% from the previous rate of 20.5%, effective July 30, Governor SBP Jameel Ahmed said.<\/p>\n<p>Addressing the press conference on Monday, he said the decision had been taken amid a decline in the inflation rate on June 2024. &#8220;The <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/pakistan\/pakistan-seeks-27bn-re-profiling-to-secure-imf-bailout-finance-minister\/\">inflation rate<\/a> has come down to 12.60% last month from 38% while the external account has continued to improve,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>The MPC statement said that the committee also assessed the inflationary impact of the FY25 budgetary measures was broadly in line with earlier expectations. The external account has continued to improve, as reflected by the build-up in SBP\u2019s FX reserves despite substantial repayments of debt and other obligations, it added.<\/p>\n<p>SBP in a statement said the announcement of monetary easing showed positive indicators for the national economy citing a slight drop in inflation, a build-up in SBP\u2019s foreign exchange (FX) reserves despite repayments of debt, and a staff-level agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for a 37-month extended fund facility (EFF) program of about $7.0 billion.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, it added that the committee assessed that the external account has continued to improve, as reflected by the build-up in the central bank\u2019s FX reserves despite substantial repayments of debt and other obligations.<\/p>\n<p>Moreover, international oil prices have also remained volatile in recent weeks, whereas prices of metals and food items have eased.
