{"id":43509,"date":"2024-08-01T12:34:15","date_gmt":"2024-08-01T07:34:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/?p=43509"},"modified":"2024-08-01T12:34:15","modified_gmt":"2024-08-01T07:34:15","slug":"govt-extends-due-dates-of-july-aug-electricity-bills","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/business\/govt-extends-due-dates-of-july-aug-electricity-bills\/","title":{"rendered":"Govt extends due dates of July, Aug electricity bills"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed all <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/pakistan\/pmln-effectively-responds-to-power-tariff-pressures-managing-economic-challenges\/\">power companies<\/a> to extend the deadline for payment of electricity bills by 10 days.<\/p>\n<p>Following the inquiry, the country\u2019s power distribution companies, including <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/uncategorized\/k-electric-seeks-massive-power-tariff-hike-under-fca\/\">K-Electric<\/a>, were found accused of <span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">overbilling<\/span> on top of backbreaking electricity tariffs.<\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">An official notification issued by the Power Division today notified that the <\/span>prime minister had directed a 10-day extension in the deadline for payment of electricity bills for<span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0July and August<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPrime Minister Shehbaz Sharif issued these instructions in view of the difficulties of the consumers,\u201d the power division said.<\/p>\n<p>In a separate statement,\u00a0<span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">National Electric Power Regulatory Autho\u00adrity (Nepra), quoting an inquiry report, said, <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cAll the distribution companies including K-Electric have been found involved in overbilling.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Nepra <span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">added that a detailed inquiry was conducted into complaints of overbilling during the <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">April<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> to June 2024 period.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The regulator said ex\u00ad\u00adplanations have been sought from all power companies over the questions of overbilling and instructions have also been passed to compensate consumers who were already under financial burden because of unaffordable electricity rates.<\/p>\n<p>It said all the companies had been directed to adjust their actual bills on a pro-rata basis in case of lower meter readings.<\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Last month, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced a <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Rs50<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> billion relief package for domestic electricity consumers using up to 200 units per month.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cThe domestic consumers who consume up to 200 units of electricity will get a subsidy for three months \u2014 July, August, September,\u201d PM announced.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed all power companies to extend the deadline for payment of electricity bills by 10 days.
