ISLAMABAD: Former Director General of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Lt Gen (retd) Faiz Hameed<\/a> is facing a court martial and has been taken into military custody after the Supreme Court (SC) directed to investigate the complaints against the Faiz related to the Top City case, here on Monday.<\/p>\n

As per the details, the ISPR<\/a> said a high-level inquiry committee had been set up to probe allegations of abuse of power during Faiz Hameed’s tenure as the country’s top intelligence agency chief.<\/p>\n

Who is Faiz Hameed?<\/h2>\n

The 3-star general served in several key positions in his decades-long career. The Baloch Regiment military officer also served as the General Officer Commanding of the 16th Infantry Division and XXXI Corps Commander at Pannu Akil before his early retirement in 2022.<\/p>\n

Faiz joined the Pakistan Military Academy in 1987. He graduated from the Command and Staff College, Quetta and was commissioned in the Baloch Regiment. His family, known for producing military leaders, includes his brothers Sardar Sikandar Hayat (deceased), Sardar Najaf Hameed (a land revenue officer), and Sardar Khizr.<\/p>\n

His career highlights include serving as Adjutant General at Army Headquarters Rawalpindi and heading the ISI from January 2017 to April 2019. He also recalled serving as GOC of 16th Infantry Division from June 2015 to January 2017.<\/p>\n

Before his retirement, the former ISI chief was also the Corps Commander in Peshawar and Bahawalpur till his retirement.<\/p>\n

Top City Case<\/h2>\n

The allegations include a raid on Top City’s office and home, where valuables were allegedly seized, and claims of extortion. Due to the serious nature of the allegations, the Supreme Court is closely monitoring the investigation.<\/p>\n

Allegations against Faiz<\/h2>\n

The former Pakistani general faced allegations of judicial manipulation in the Panama Papers case involving former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.<\/p>\n

However, Faiz Hameed denied the allegations saying they are false and said that the constitution of judicial benches is under the jurisdiction of the Chief Justice of the IHC.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
