{"id":44829,"date":"2024-08-13T14:10:06","date_gmt":"2024-08-13T09:10:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/?p=44829"},"modified":"2024-08-13T14:10:06","modified_gmt":"2024-08-13T09:10:06","slug":"wagah-boarder-closes-to-public-for-independence-day-parade","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/pakistan\/wagah-boarder-closes-to-public-for-independence-day-parade\/","title":{"rendered":"Wagah Boarder closes to public for Independence Day Parade"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>LAHORE: The<a href=\"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/pakistan\/monal-annouced-its-closure-in-islamabad-heres-why\/\"> Wagah border will be closed<\/a> to the public for this year&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/sports\/bangladesh-cricket-team-lands-in-pakistan-for-test-series\/\">Independence Day parade<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/pakistan\/islamabad\/ban-imposed-on-baajas-in-islamabad\/\">flag-lowering ceremony<\/a> due to ongoing renovations at the Bab-e-Azadi (Gate of Freedom).<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, in February 2024, Punjab&#8217;s caretaker government launched a project to <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyausaf.com\/en\/sports\/babar-azam-maintains-top-spot-in-latest-icc-odi-rankings\/\">renovate and expand the Bab-e-Azadi<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>As a result of this construction, this year\u2019s Independence Day parade by the Pakistan Rangers Punjab and the flag-lowering ceremony will be accessible to only a limited number of guests.<\/p>\n<p>Banners at the site have informed the public of these restrictions.<\/p>\n<p>The Wagah Border, which has evolved significantly over the past 77 years from a small checkpoint to a grand gate-like structure, features the Bab-e-Azadi with a prominent portrait of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah facing India and walls depicting scenes from the 1947 migration.<\/p>\n<p>The joint flag-lowering ceremony by Pakistan and India, a tradition since 1959, continues to attract thousands of spectators annually. However, public access will be restricted this year due to the construction.<\/p>\n<p>The renovation project, approved by Punjab&#8217;s caretaker government, includes substantial upgrades to the Bab-e-Azadi and its facilities.<\/p>\n<p>The redesign will reflect the Alamgiri Gate of Lahore\u2019s Shahi Qila, with the addition of large LCD screens for improved parade viewing.<\/p>\n<p>The parade ground will be expanded to hold around 18,000 spectators, and the parking area will be enlarged.
